Imagine shooting across the surface of one of
Utah's lakes or reservoirs at speeds of more than 25mph and jumping at
will 10',
20' and higher. Welcome to the hot new extreme sport of Kite Boarding or
Kite Surfing.
This is the sport you've
seen on TV. The sport
that people talk about as if they had seen aliens climb out of a
UFO. The
sport that gets so much publicity that you wonder what it is all about.
Kite Boarding or Kite
Surfing
is so unique because you don't
need a boat, jet ski, wave runner or any other motorized vehicle to
enjoy the
water. The name explains a lot. A kite, a board, some wind,
and you
out on the water, snow, grass field, or parking lot.
Primitive
snowkiting has
been used for transportation across the vast snow fields of the
Arctic for
centuries. Well, someone found a way to make it into a
sport.
Kiteboarding or
Kitesurfing started in 1998 and is finally
making its appearance in Utah. Kiteboarding or Kitesurfing has
become one of the fastest growing
sports in the world and is seen on coasts from Hawaii to Australia, from
Europe
to South America, and on just about any body of water or powdery snow
field in between. Kiteboarding,
Kitesurfing, and Snowkiting have been seen on rivers, lakes,
ponds, snowy mountain flats,
just about anywhere there's a puddle wide enough or a snow pile big
enough to ride across.
